Ms. Cannon immediately began the process of admission labs and x-rays but not before explaining each procedure to my 91-year-old mother who was sick and scared.
My mother was transported to Memorial Hospital Emergency Room by ambulance from an assisted living facility in Biloxi with a fever of 103 F. Luckily that night, bed space was available and she was placed quickly in a room. Her nurse, Imogene Cannon, had been called in to cover for an absent staff member, and her care, concerns, and compassion went above and beyond.
Ms. Cannon immediately began the process of admission labs and x-rays but not before explaining each procedure to my 91-year-old mother who was sick and scared. Her prompt action with those procedures allowed for a quick diagnosis and initiation of treatment.
However, what stands out in my mind that night was the time Ms. Cannon took at the end of her shift to make sure my mother understood everything and that she was comfortable. She took the time to change her (she had been incontinent) and provide extra blankets and pillows while she waited for her room to become available.
My mother was hospitalized for a week, and as a retired nurse with 40 years of experience, I was thoroughly impressed by the care and compassion of Ms. Cannon. She is certainly a DAISY Nurse. Thank you for making Memorial our hospital of choice.
