The patient, who was once very dismissive, had a beaming glow and did not look as hopeless after this event. Ingiany gave this patient his dependency when he thought all was lost.
I personally witnessed her making a special connection with one of our substance use disorder patients by obtaining his prosthetic leg from his camper van to ensure that he got the physical therapy he desperately needed.

A little back story, this said patient was a little rough around the edges- would refuse a lot of interventions and was not always nice to the nursing staff when they were trying to help him. Ingiany had this patient for multiple nights in a row and took the time to listen to the patient and develop a relationship with him, which many nurses were not able to do. The patient had discussed that he really wanted to get PT because he felt as if he was "withering away" in bed. This is where lngiany's mission to obtain this patient's prosthetic leg began!

This patient had confided in her that his prosthetic was in his camper van that was parked in the ED parking lot and that his brother was supposed to come to the hospital to take it out for him, but continuously kept letting him down by not showing up to obtain the leg. lngiany called security and inquired how she could help the patient to get his prosthetic leg. After two consecutive night shifts, lngiany and security created a plan to go to the patient's camper van and obtain his prosthetic leg- with the patient's full permission to enter his camper.

At 4:30 am, I saw lngiany walking down the hall carrying a 20 lb prosthetic leg. It was a beautiful sight to see. She worked hard and had to collaborate with security on multiple instances to make sure that this could happen.

The patient, who was once very dismissive, had a beaming glow and did not look as hopeless after this event. Ingiany gave this patient his dependency when he thought all was lost. She gave him her time when others in his family did not, and she was his advocate, making sure that he was able to succeed during the rest of his hospital stay and participate in the PT that was needed.

lngiany created a very special connection with this patient and went beyond the call to the bedside.
