My name is E, I’m an ex-alcoholic and drug addict. 451 days sober today. The beginning of April 2023, I was found unconscious and brought to the hospital. I was suffering from liver failure, kidney failure, and heart failure, among numerous other conditions. I don't remember anything in the beginning. The life-saving measures taken by the ER and ICU staff are nothing short of miraculous. Sometimes, people don't survive even one or two of these medical conditions I was suffering from. I was given a 70% chance of dying with a 3-month mortality. My medical conditions were so bad, OHSU even turned me down as a patient, stating the only thing they could offer me was palliative care. Willamette Valley Medical Center stepped up and continued to treat me. The doctors, the nurses, all of the staff down to the kitchen staff and the housekeeping team. They provided exceptional care for me. I'm a 47-year-old single dad. I had given up on life. I was drinking myself to death. All of the employees treated me with love and dignity. My kids have their dad back, thanks to everybody at Willamette Valley Medical Center. I would love to hug and thank each and every employee and staff member for giving me a second chance at life. I can't pick any one person as being above and beyond the others. Everybody was phenomenal. Everybody explained everything in a way I could understand, even in my mental state. They didn't give up on me. For that, I will be indebted for the rest of my life. My kids wanted to make sure I said thanks for giving them their dad back.
