One day in May the most unexpected and tragic event occurred, a beautiful and perfect 2-day-old baby "K" gained her wings. The teamwork and compassion displayed that day were incredible, but there was one person who stood out to me the most. The way in which this RN embraced a grieving mother, who was alone and shattered was inspiring. While I knew her heart was breaking as well, she took it upon herself to provide the most selfless and empathic care I've ever witnessed. I witnessed her cradling and consoling this mother as she shed tears of sorrow, confusion, and anger - never leaving her side once, for hours. She lie in bed beside this broken mother, so she didn't have to face her darkest moments alone. I'm beyond fortunate that we work in an organization that can support this 1:1 care, but it takes a nurse like Ione, to fulfill and display the lasting impacts of such care. Ione's care that tragic day, did just that - left a lasting impact; not just for me, but on baby "K's" grieving mother and family as well. She will forever be thankful for the empathy, compassion, and selflessness that you displayed while caring for her as she grieved the unexpected loss of her baby girl. I will be forever thankful to know I work beside such an amazing nurse, friend, and person.
