Irene has been with K since the day she came home. K just turned five, which means Irene has been with her for almost five years! In those five years she has gone above and beyond for K and our family. She has accompanied me to hundreds of doctor appointments, camping trips, parties, two Disney trips and countless other places. She has always stepped up to cover shifts so I wasn't left with an open shift even if it meant she was working double shifts.
Irene not only cares for K as a nurse should, but she treats her like a granddaughter. K will even run to Irene before mom sometimes when she is sick or gets hurt. She gives her hugs and kisses and holds her to kiss the boo-boos better. K loves Irene.
Irene is not only wonderful with K, she treats K's brother the same way. She pays attention to him, hugs him, helps him if he asks her, and always makes him feel just as important. I know it's not Irene's job to be that way to J, but it means a lot to us that she loves him too!
I know our family will be lost when K's trach comes out and Irene moves on to help another family, but I also know the next family will be very lucky to have Irene as their nurse.
