I am a retired nurse manager and fully recommend Irene Funkhouser for the DAISY Award. Irene Funkhouser is an exceptional nurse! She is considerate of and very concerned for her patients. She would thoroughly and patiently explain the purpose of my medication and medical questions. She always gave me my medication on time.

I have unstable type I diabetes, and she would check my glucometer every hour to make sure my sugar level was okay. My glucose management was a problem during my hospitalization and with Irene, I felt calm because I know she would treat the glucose level properly. During the engraftment period, I had severe back pain. Irene would give me heating pads for my back rather than just ask if I needed pain medication. Also, I ended up with C. difficile during my transplant and had multiple bouts of diarrhea. Irene would clean the commode right away each time rather than waiting for the CNA hours later to clean it. I felt Irene cared about me and was genuinely interested that I recovered well. I felt safe and confident under the care of Irene Funkhouser, and without reservation strongly recommend her for the DAISY Award.
