I was admitted to ICU with a severe allergic reaction to peanuts. From the moment I arrived, Nurse Irene was so very attentive. About every 10 to 15 minutes, she would come in the room and check for swelling of my tongue and throat. My lips and face were already grossly swollen, and she checked on me all night long. If she weren't in the room checking on me, she would look through the window at me. I didn't realize the seriousness of the situation until the possibility of intubation was explained to me. I wasn't allowed to have any water, and my lips were extremely dry and parched. She got a little brush, wet my lips, and applied moisturizer to them. She was so very attentive and genuinely seemed to care. The next night, I had a different nurse, and she stopped by to check on me and my progress. She is truly a wonderful, caring nurse and truly deserves the DAISY Award.
