My dad was transferred to MRMC for emergent cardiac care, which quickly turned into open heart surgery. As most could imagine, the hours spent in the waiting room and at his bedside during the first 48 hours were filled with uncertainty, fear and extreme anxiety. The first morning we met Irina, I knew my dad was being cared for by one of the best! She possesses all of the most important qualities of a nurse.

First and foremost, she keeps you safe! She provided care that was evidence-based and protocol-driven. Her attention to detail was impeccable. She explained everything she was doing and why to me, my family, and my dad. She reassured us during our times of uncertainty and put our anxious minds at rest each step of the way. She didn't leave his bedside for the first shift, and her attention to detail and care were obvious. I felt reassured when we had to leave the bedside that my father was in good hands. While my dad was intubated, she asked us questions about him to get to know more about him, and then eventually did the same with him when he was awake and able to communicate. She cared for him and our family as a whole.

Irina was the perfect balance of strict and caring. Her direct and to the point personality was EXACTLY what my dad needed. She took the time to talk about lifestyle changes and how to proceed with life once he was home. Her bedside education was excellent. Her care was so genuine and thorough, and she truly cares for the patient as a whole and sets them up for success.

Our family will always be thankful for the care my dad received in CVICU, but especially thankful for crossing paths with Irina. She is truly an example of what all nurses should be! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts...especially the newly mended one!
