HISTORIA 1:

Nomination #1:
My story with Isabel begins at a moment of darkness and challenge. At 19 years old, I was diagnosed with a tumor in my pancreas, and my life took an unexpected turn. As a result, I was hospitalized for months; at the beginning, I was in the ICU for weeks.
I longed to be discharged, but the reality of my situation was complex, and I knew that I still had much to face. When I was transferred to the regular ward, my sadness grew; I had created a special bond with the ICU staff and feared what my new nurses and technicians would be like. The simple fact of having been hospitalized for so long was already distressing me.
I felt so exhausted, sad, and without the desire to keep fighting until one day Nurse Isa appeared and, from the bottom of my heart, I can say that this was when I began to see things from a much more positive perspective.
Isabel became part of that fight, and she still is to this day. Throughout this process, I have met and continue to meet different healthcare professionals, but no one compares to Isabel in terms of the love, passion, commitment, and human quality she possesses. Not only as a nurse, but as a person and, above all, as a friend.
I was never without her words of motivation, her advice, her stories or anecdotes, jokes or playful moments that we shared between us, but that for me helped me feel as if my mind was a little outside of the hospital.
I grew so fond of her that I always looked forward to Isabel returning from her shift so that, when I saw her walk in, she would greet me with that big smile and funny laugh that characterized her. I loved being able to talk with her, even if it was only for a couple of minutes, because I knew she had to return to work.
That is why, when I was told that I would be going into surgery again, I felt as if the world was falling apart, because it was unknown whether I would return to the same floor, which meant that I would not see my nurses, technicians, and, above all, “my favorite nurse,” as I called Isabel.
I remember opening my eyes with great difficulty; I was not in the same room. I was now in the Intermediate Care Unit (ICU), and the first thing I saw beside me was Nurse Isabel holding my hand and crying.
“My little one, everything will be okay; you are a warrior,” and she made me a promise that meant so much because it was one of my motivations throughout my entire recovery.
When I finally returned to the regular ward, Isabel was not working, but there was not a single day when Nurse Lorena did not remind me that Nurse Isabel asked about me every day, to know how I was doing and how my recovery was progressing.
This speaks of her genuine commitment, not only as a professional, but as a human being.
Isabel was not only a support for me, but also for my family, especially for my mother. Whenever she tells my story, it is impossible for her not to become emotional; the experiences we shared were profound and transformative.
One day, when I was admitted to the operating room for another procedure, my situation became complicated. In observation, I could not be stabilized, and in the middle of the confusion, I remember saying: “I want Isabel, because I love her very much.”
My mother, distressed, heard my words and, from a distance, realized that Isabel had asked for permission to come see me.
Isabel’s arrival was a ray of hope in that critical moment. She became the greatest emotional support my mother had. She hugged her with such deep affection that my mother felt everything was going to be okay. That hug not only conveyed reassurance, but also an unconditional love that only someone like Isabel could offer.
My mother, overwhelmed with emotion, woke me up to tell me that she was there. I opened my eyes and saw Isabel beside me, and in that moment, I felt peace.
We had no support network in Santiago; the distance from our home and the uncertainty of the illness were overwhelming. However, Isabel became one of the greatest pillars we had during those dark days.
Every time Isabel entered the room, her light illuminated the space. Her warmth and dedication not only helped me face my own fears, but also gave my family the strength they needed to endure the situation.
She was not just a nurse; she was an angel in our lives.
As time passed, my relationship with Isabel became more than professional. She became a friend and confidante. I knew I could count on her at any moment, and that was invaluable in such a stressful environment. Isabel was the embrace that we all needed in moments of despair, and because of that, I will always be grateful.
During those difficult moments, Isabel became the support network we did not have. Each day that passed, I saw how her presence transformed not only my experience, but also that of my family.
Today, when I reflect on my experience and the way I have faced my illness, many are surprised by my positive outlook, but how could I not have it when I met so many wonderful people throughout my journey, like Isabel?
My grandfather, may he rest in peace, always said that Isabel was an angel sent by God, and I could not agree more.
My grandfather accompanied me throughout my entire process and witnessed what Nurse Isabel was like with me. He always told me that Nurse Isabel was an angel that God placed in my path, and I could not agree more; she is an angel that God sent me.
Isabel is an angel for every patient who is fortunate enough to be cared for by her.
Nomination #2:
Today we want to dedicate a few words to Isabel from the bottom of our hearts.
Although we are not the ones who lived the hospital experience firsthand, we have been witnesses to the light you have brought into the life of our beloved granddaughter.
At moments when everything seemed to become darker for her, facing a terrifying diagnosis at such a young age, being in the hospital became a true challenge. Seeing her sadness and fear broke our hearts.
But then you arrived, with your warmth and that smile that illuminates even the grayest days.
From the very first day, your kindness and dedication made an immense difference in Ignacia’s life. You were not only her nurse; you became her unconditional support, a friend she could trust.
Your words of encouragement and the stories you shared not only lifted her spirits, but also brought us joy during such difficult moments.
I remember seeing her face light up every time she mentioned your name, and the way she spoke about you during later hospitalizations, telling the other nurses how much she loved you, filled us with pride.
You not only cared for her physical health, but you also offered her the emotional support she needed so deeply.
Your presence was a blessing for us as a family; a nurse like Isabel is no longer commonly seen in these times.
When your shifts came, although she did not realize it, it was a special shift because we felt much calmer and more comfortable.
During those days of uncertainty, seeing how your light and affection transformed her hospital experience was an immense relief for us.
You became a fundamental pillar, an angel who accompanied us through the darkness.
