While enjoying the day off, Iva Gibbs witnessed a two-car, head-on collision as a result of an intoxicated driver. The injured were comprised of a young mother and her child. Before EMS arrived on the scene, Iva ran down an embankment to assess the situation. When she approached the car, a 3-year-old toddler was screaming and crying, and the mother was badly injured. Iva prevented bystanders from moving the patient, which ultimately saved the young mother's life. Iva stayed with the mother until help arrived. At that point, the mother told the child to go with Iva, who accompanied the child to the ER via EMS. Once the patient's family arrived, Iva left.
It wasn't Iva's job to comfort this family during their terrifying accident; she simply did what she feels she has been called to do. Words cannot begin to express how much it meant to this family to have someone watch over them in their time of need.
