Ivan Guash is a dedicated nurse who lives the Broward Health vision of being the champion for a healthier community daily. Ivan was presented with a patient who was recently diagnosed with a chronic medical condition during their hospital stay that would require them to alter their daily habits for the rest of their life. “Ivan coached me, taught me how to care for myself, and most importantly, he listened to me. He was understanding, warm, and gentle in his approach. Ivan is observant, responsive, compassionate, and caring, but most importantly, he has a great sense of humor. Ivan listened carefully to my family’s and my needs, and he made me laugh when I was not feeling like myself. I can feel how devoted he is to his craft in our interactions. He made me feel beyond comfortable in a hospital setting. Isn’t that strange?” Because of Ivan, I was able to leave the hospital feeling like I had a new purpose in life and that I could accomplish anything. Ivan is a role model to his colleagues, and he is the ultimate champion for a healthier community. He not only embodies Broward Health’s mission and vision, but he lives it every day.
