Ivan spends hours following up with family members to ensure that they are fully involved in relationship-based care.
This nurse is a strong role model for service excellence. His presentation to his colleagues is that of an experienced professional RN who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about the care he provides and is fully engaged in his work. He is a CAP four RN, a preceptor, a unit leader and has recently been promoted to an Assistant Nurse Manager position.

Every day he comes to work it is with dedication and commitment to providing the best possible service to our patients and families. He is always recognized by his peers for his ability to develop strong ties with his colleagues mentoring and supporting their growth, role modeling service excellence while seeking opportunities to learn himself.

During the pandemic, he readily took charge of a designated overflow COVID unit. This role presented many challenges and often barriers that needed to be overcome to create a positive work environment and experience for the nurses on his team.

His talent is to listen. He hears what people have to say and takes into consideration feedback and suggestions. He cannot always provide the answer that people are seeking but he generates a collaborative conversation that results in action plans and follow-up as he commits to creating an environment for everyone to learn and grow while leading the team on the unit. Because of this his colleagues and peers trust him and feel appropriately guided during his shift, are able to take the learning opportunities presented and grow professionally.

This nurse makes a difference in the lives of patients every day. Examples are observed daily as he is teaching new grads, assisting nurses with challenging assignments, ensuring all nurses take time off the unit for breaks, managing daily briefs and unit huddles.

During Covid, it was challenging to engage the team as a whole during brief because of the challenges the covid patient population presented on F4. This nurse made sure communication occurred by conducting smaller group huddles so that all members of the team received updates and new information timely. This provided an opportunity for questions, concerns, and identification of barriers or challenges for the staff. As a result of these smaller huddles, he was able to frequently make changes to assignments, help with assignments or delegate others to increase support to a particular nurse experiencing changes or higher acuity than others. He knows every patient and every issue.

This nurse has a talent for turning a service recovery into letters of thanks and grateful words from patients who might have come in with a lower perception of our care. He spends hours following up with family members to ensure that they are fully involved in relationship-based care. His attributes of selflessness, flexibility, enthusiasm, and optimism are exampled as he demonstrates his full connection to the team, frequently following up after he has left with phone calls and texts to ensure there are no issues and the unit is running smoothly.

He is willing to change his schedule, come in on a day off without hesitation. This nurse places the community we serve in front of everything he does at MSSN. He has a global perspective of the organization bringing years of floating to his current role. He started out as a comfort squad and progressed to RN and now ANM.

His perception and understanding of teamwork are central to his performance. He delegates appropriately and when collaborating with all disciplines he is recognized and praised for his openness and ability to truly understand patient needs and his well-developed communication skills allow for true collaboration in patient care.

This RN supported the covid testing when the tent first opened ensuring that enough staff were available to meet the increasing testing need and continued to do so through early 2021. Prior to the pandemic, he worked with team members to teach elementary school kids the importance of handwashing.

This RN is currently enrolled in school for his advanced practice degree graduating in 2022. We are so proud of his accomplishments and he is a true definition of a DAISY Nurse. Our team is growing to over 200 members and we look forward to him developing his leadership skills and professional growth.
