Ivaylo was my wife’s day shift nurse on our 5th and 6th days in the hospital. Ivaylo stood out for his professional demeanor, willingness to listen (carefully considering my wife’s thoughts about her condition), and just the right amount of encouragement and humor in each situation. As my wife became more alert and was getting her humor back, she would comment after he’d leave, “I want one. Can’t we take him home with us?” One example that speaks to the confidence we gained in him regards his measurements of J’s blood pressure. It was her high and unstable blood pressure readings that were extending her hospitalization. Every nurse who used our room's BP equipment struggled to get a measurement. We had lost a lot of confidence in the accuracy and repeatability of their measurements as we watched them struggle more than once. Ivaylo tried to get the equipment to work also, but instead of wrestling to get a measurement each time, he moved to a manual BP device. Ivaylos's approach to the same problem everyone was having was impressive, and we were always confident with all his measurements and care after that!
