I'd like to thank Ivelisse Acevedo and share my story of why this nurse is so special. Having your loved one admitted to the hospital is one of the most devastating ordeals to process. My mom is not the most cooperative patient, as she’s not easily persuaded about the “system” of health care as she’s managed her health since I can remember. I believe my mom suffered trauma after experiencing less than mediocre care for her family members in the past. Upon her arrival at MedStar, my mom would not allow the medical team to perform even the basic medical screenings/test the dcotor. Prescribed because she was fearful and not knowledgeable about the procedure. Miss Ivy was an angel sent to my mom and my family. Her level of professionalism, compassion, and overall special care for my mom and family has been unmatched. She’s extremely patient and incredibly thorough in explaining to my mom everything. Her interactions with my mom were genuine. She didn’t treat her like a condition or a nobody. She took the time to see my mom. Because of her level of compassion and patience, my mom was more susceptible to the test and care she needed. Ivy has been instrumental in keeping me updated on my mom’s care and progress, especially when my mom’s phone broke. From the first day that I spoke with IVY, I knew my mom was in good hands. I was frustrated, and confused as to what was going on. Ivy took the time to listen intently and was mindful not to match the energy I am sure was not pleasant from my frustration. This is what good health care is about. It wasn't just being educated about medicine, but the sensitivity to know it’s the scariest time for loved ones and patients when your health is at risk.
