Ivette Hernandez-Alvarez, BSN, RN

Ivette advocated for my son and loved on him when we couldn't be there. My son J was at Dell Children's for a total of 143 days. He spent 100 of those days in the PICU. Ivette was such a blessing to our family. She was a ray of sunshine we needed during a very difficult time. She made me feel at ease and at home right away. Baby J was on hemodialysis for a long period of time in the PICU. Even if she wasn't caring for J during her shift, she always checked in on him.

There was one day that I was wanting to just have my baby be a baby and she made that happen. J had never been outside other than an ambulance transport to Dell. I really just wanted to do something that would make me feel connected to him. She got approval and made it happen! She also set up the room so I could have some floor time with J which was very special. Ivette is very invested and truly cares for her patients. We had to come back a few weeks after discharge unfortunately due to illness and when he saw her his face lit up! She truly made a difference in J's life. He was always so happy to see her!
