My father was very sick when he arrived to UH. Ivie Kedley was the day shift nurse the following day after his arrival from Green Bay. She was my father’s primary nurse. She provided me with answers to my questions once I was able to process my father’s situation. I am a nurse myself and I could tell she had put all of her effort in that day. Her fellow nurse at the end of her shift hugged her in the hall. I want her to know her efforts are noticed. A few days later our family had decided to withdraw life support and she was his primary nurse that morning. Throughout the morning in discussing my father’s situation Ivie coordinated everything for us. Our family situation was very heartbreaking, my father was only 58 years old, and his mother (my grandmother) was actively dying from cancer. It was a very difficult situation to be in. My sisters and I hugged her and thanked her for all she had done taking care of our father and we shared tears. It takes a strong human being to be able to handle grief and keep your composure when you are exposed to it. I want her to know that she is noticed, and she is intelligent and a great nurse!
