Ivy stayed bedside with him. Ivy got down on her knees beside J and just listened and cried along with him.
My husband arrived to the cath lab and was released in a few days. Had an episode and needed a pacemaker. The pacemaker was doing its job, released in a couple. Decided since he had a heart attack and stent in 2012 he would go ahead and check for any blockages. We all understood he wanted to be released to attend his sister’s memorial service in Ft. Morgan. This didn’t happen; we learned he needed triple bypass surgery. I went home to get more clothes and do what I needed to do for my Mom. She has Parkinson's. I hadn’t gotten home yet, and my sister-in-law called to tell me my brother died of a massive heart attack while driving a truck to Kansas City. I needed to go and tell Mom face to face.

They hadn’t been told yet that I had been at the hospital since Saturday. How “lucky” was it that time I was only 45 miles away instead of 150? I called my other brother in Nevada who was salmon fishing on the Oregon Coast and went and told Mom. Came back here and had the talk and shared the other bad news. Kids and I attended the service, and our oldest daughter came to stay and visit J while we were at the service. Ivy was the nurse. She told J she had heard about my brother. Ivy stayed bedside with him. Ivy got down on her knees beside J and just listened and cried along with him. Ivy hugged J and said she would find him on her next shift when she was back on duty. Every nurse has been great, but Ivy’s compassion makes me cry just writing this.
