Izzy Bastian, BSN, RN, CEN

Lauren “Izzy” Bastian, BSN RN CEN, was wearing a different hat on this day, working as Nursing Supervisor, when she was nominated for going above and beyond what was expected. The nominator reports that a husband and wife both presented to the ER. The wife was having a stroke and needed emergent transfer to Riverside Regional for Intervention, meanwhile the husband had fallen trying to get her into the ER, sustaining an injury to the wrist. The wife was worried about her husband and the husband was worried about his wife, and Izzy recognized this. She quickly pulled together a care package consisting of the appropriate wrist splint, books for the wife (who was a librarian), and a few candies and mints for the daughter and helped them out the door. She then made the time to call to ensure the entire family had made it to Newport News safely. The family was touched and stated, “She made us feel so well taken care of, at ease, and comfortable in a very scary time; we are SO thankful she was there.”
