Jacie stood her ground and really fought for that patient to go to the best facility for them.
I am going to start this off by saying, I love to watch Jacie work. It is hard to describe the person she is, but I will try my hardest. She is known throughout Mercy for her kindness, efficiency, being knowledgeable, and just an overall wonderful and hard-working person. She is also known for her big smile and willingness to serve others.
There was a case that was very difficult. Jacie came to me concerned that although some skilled nursing facilities were looking at and considering taking a patient, she was not convinced they could really provide the care that this patient needed. She talked through the entire case and looked at both sides. But, at the end of the day, she still felt that this patient was too frail and medically complex for a normal skilled nursing facility to take. She started the process of getting this patient referred to a Long Term Acute Care Hospital. She diligently worked on this case for a couple of weeks, as the insurance that the patient had was fighting to allow this patient to go to an LTACH. She stood her ground and really fought for that patient to go to the best facility for them.
After 2 weeks, there was still no approval, but the patient had progressed enough to be appropriate for a Skilled Nursing Facility, and we were able to discharge them to their choice that was in network with their insurance. Although this patient did not go to an LTACH, this story shows who Jacie is as a nurse. She puts the patient first, every time. She works hard, even in those cases that we have little to no options, for the best outcome possible. Because that is who she is as a person and nurse. She cares with all of who she is and hasn’t lost sight of that. She reminds me often of what a great nurse is. Patients that have her on their side will never lose ground because she will be there behind them, fighting for them, every step of the way.
