I nominate Jack David Capps, MSN, RN, CRNA for the DAISY Award. He saved the day for two very ill patients who suddenly went into Respiratory Distress. At approximately 7 pm, two patients on the Inpatient Unit in Mother Frances Hospital-Jacksonville, went into sudden Respiratory Distress and a Rapid Response was called. Jack was in the hospital visiting a friend and was not on call. He came to the inpatient unit and volunteered to assist. He ended up intubating the two patients who were both flown to Tyler for critical care. He was calm, helpful, patient with staff who don't often participate in intubations and he was very proficient. The next week, he provided inservices for the inpatient unit nurses on assisting with Rapid Sequence Intubation for Adults and Pediatrics. He made two excellent presentations. We appreciate David's willingness to assist his colleagues and the patients. He saved the day … and the patients!
