Jack Zangl, RN

Jack was my nurse while in the UW East Hospital Madison’s emergency room. I am a 90-year-old woman and retired nurse. I have seen a lot of impatient nurses in my day and those who do not do well with the elderly, but not on that day. Jack was extremely patient, even with my forgetfulness and asking the same questions over and over again. He was kind to my family and patient with them as well. He never spoke down to me or made me feel less than equal. Even with the multiple times he had to help me use the commode, he never made me feel less dignified. If he were to ever leave ER nursing, he would be fantastic in Geriatrics. So often, we are made to feel less human just because of our age. Jack’s humor, kindness, intelligence, and compassion were a bright light on a less-than-great day. My granddaughter and I both would like to thank him.
