On a busy day, this nurse was assisting with a patient procedure - TEE/CVN. The patient had been non-compliant with his anti-coagulant medication. He said it was too expensive and he could not afford it. After the TEE/CVN, she questioned the patient more and instructed him as to the importance of compliance to prevent strokes. She called the NP working in Electrophysiology to see if she could get a card for Eliquis (30 days Free). Jackie obtained a card, called the patient's pharmacy, and got it activated, and the price was $30 instead of the $500. She arranged all this for the patient before he was discharged that day. He was a young man in his 40s with a family. She was concerned about his risk for stroke and his non-compliance. He was so grateful for her dedication to helping him. Jackie deserves a DAISY award for great patient care and dedication to keeping the patient safe.
