Jackie Gove is a compassionate and empathetic nurse. One can see the deep empathy she has for her patients. She focuses on her patients at all times and one would not know that she has several tasks vying for her attention while delivering care for that one patient. Once she is with her patient, that particular patient will receive her undivided attention. It was just such an interaction on a busy Tuesday morning. Jackie was working with a mentally challenged patient who was known to have bursts of uncontrolled fury. The patient suddenly became violent and angry. Jackie was observed to talk to the patient calmly and with kindness. Despite this patient throwing furniture around, kicking the walls, and anything else he could reach, Jackie remained calm and her interactions with him were kind, loving, and respectful. Although some may say that Jackie, due to her 40+ years of nursing knowledge, may have the experience to deal with such challenges, it takes a special person to remain unflappable in the face of a violent patient who is not able to be negotiated or reasoned with. Jackie is a true DAISY Nurse with her kindness and compassion despite the odds.
