I was admitted to the ICU for a GI Bleed. Although the care I received was excellent, I immediately felt uncomfortable due to the cold temperature of my room. The staff said there was no way to control the temperature in the individual rooms. They even kindly moved me to another room, which they said is usually warmer than the first room I was assigned. However, the second room was also extremely cold. The nurses kindly brought me warm blankets, but since I had been given prep for a colonoscopy the following day, I was constantly having to get up to use the bedside commode. I actually got chills every time I got up out of bed. It was one of the most uncomfortable nights of my life.
The next day my colonoscopy was performed around 12:30 pm. When I returned to my room, it was a much more comfortable temperature. While I was downstairs in the operating room, my nurse, Jackie Grimm, had called Maintenance to come up and check the thermostats in ICU. She was the only one who took the initiative to call Maintenance to repair the problem. Jackie was very efficient, compassionate, and kind to me. She made the rest of my stay very pleasant because she resolved the issue of the extremely cold, uncomfortable temperature in my room.
I wish to give my heartfelt thanks to Jackie Grimm for her excellent care and for "going the extra mile" to ensure that my hospital stay was comfortable and a pleasant experience. I am honored to nominate Jackie Grimm for a DAISY Award. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
