Jackie has made many contributions to the effectiveness of our patient care delivery system which due to her leadership is evidence-based, patient-centered, and quality-driven.
In reviewing the contributions to this nomination from educators, managers, directors, and senior nursing leadership, there are consistent, recurring themes about the outstanding leadership Jackie Munro provides to BayCare Health System. Adjectives used to describe her leadership include knowledgeable, caring, compassionate, kind, creative, and empowering. She role models the behavior and knowledge necessary to positively influence the nursing profession. She emphasizes the importance of education and provides the tools necessary for the nursing professional development practitioners (NPDP) to educate themselves and their team members.
As the Vice President of Nursing System and Resources at BayCare, Jackie has influenced many to advance their education or seek certification in their specialty. She continues to chair the BayCare Professional Practice Council and lets our team members know they have a voice, and it matters.
In matters of Professional Practice at a state level, Jackie has been extremely active in the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE) and locally in the Tampa Bay Organization of Nurse Executives (TBONE) providing her leadership in officer roles including education, scholarship, conference planning and President of FONE. She has made many contributions to the effectiveness of our patient care delivery system which due to her leadership is evidence-based, patient-centered, and quality-driven.
She was an invaluable colleague as we navigated our way through the COVID pandemic. Initially, there was very little known about the newly identified virus and the CDC was coming out with recommendations very frequently, so we were changing our internal processes and policies accordingly. We needed to keep all our team members up to date so we depended on our Clinical Education colleagues to help with the necessary education of the staff. We often needed it to happen very quickly. Jackie never once refused or tried to delay acting on the request. She quickly assembled her team every single time to meet our needs. The needed education was provided in a timely manner, and she transformed the Education Team in the West Region into a DAISY Team. Through her leadership, she was able to standardize the nursing education provided across 14 hospitals and three regions of teams to become one. She promoted the ANPD standard for specific numbers of team members that the unit-based educators would be responsible for, thus creating equity amongst the teams. She helped the leadership attain Nurse Managers so that there is better communication and oversight of the educators to help with team morale, career growth, and feeling of inclusion since the team is very large. During Covid, she has been working 24/7 on masking policies, infection control, immunizations, school partnerships, staffing, orientation, and helping to transition education programs to all BayCare hospitals.
One of her outstanding leadership traits is her providing an atmosphere of inclusion. Not only does she include all of Nursing, but the other clinical disciplines as well. The relationships she has built have helped get all the disciplines on board. She is an excellent role model for her team of directors, managers, and educators. Her focus is always on the patient and what is safe. Her outstanding work and leadership are what make her a DAISY Nurse Leader.
Jackie is the epitome of professionalism and always demonstrates our BayCare values. It is obvious by working with Jackie that the advancement of nursing practice and the growth and development of our team is her number one priority. She always takes the time to facilitate, explain, communicate, and teach those around her. Jackie provides an environment for her team to flourish through independence and autonomy while knowing she is always a phone call away. She is a phenomenal leader and is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
