Jackie is an OR nurse at the Plymouth Campus. One of the responsibilities of an OR nurse is to take call and be available any time of the day or night in emergencies. That requires commitment and dedication.
There was a patient who required an emergent surgical procedure and the OR team at midnight. This patient had multiple medical problems that led to his emergency. One of the contributing factors was that the patient could not afford his diabetic medicine. The patient and daughter were very afraid that he would lose his foot due to the severe infection. Jackie treated them with such respect, compassion, and reassurance.
Jackie also spent some time with the patient's daughter helping her to find low-cost prescriptions for her father. All of this was done in the middle of the night.
The patient's daughter left a note to thank her for the care that she gave her father recognizing Jackie's commitment to her job "in the middle of the night."
Jackie showed care and compassion to this patient and daughter when they needed it most.
