While the procedures in our department can sometimes cause patients stress, Jacky has the ability to reduce that stress and make the procedure more pleasant.
Jacky is a true role model of compassionate care and clinical excellence. I often catch her secretly helping others and the department, quietly making a big impact but seeking no recognition. One example is when she surprised a long-term patient with developmental disabilities with a present to brighten her day and even specially purchased a doll with red clothes in the patient’s favorite color.

While the procedures in our department can sometimes cause patients stress, Jacky has the ability to reduce that stress and make the procedure more pleasant. In addition to obtaining her certification and advancing her practice through continuing education, Jacky makes special connections with patients putting them at ease and boosting their morale during health challenges (i.e. sharing recipes, catching up on favorite sports teams, even inviting them to engage in community trivia nights). There is a lot of living that happens around health challenges that can be a source of relief and hope, and Jacky reminds our patients of that.

She also continuously contributes to the quality improvement of the department. She owned the lead nursing role for the podiatry clinic when a peer went out on paternity leave. It was more than just covering; she took copious notes to make a guide to ensure continuity of care, assisted in cross-training peers, and implemented a huddle process to ensure no patient needs fell between the cracks. She is a Joint Commission QI measure champion promoting the education of patients on their Wound Etiology to promote understanding of healing factors and prevention of recurrence. Jacky also serves as a Safety Coach, charge nurse, maintains the highest-level performance in our clinical ladder program, performs monthly pain audits, and assists with data monitoring that facilitates population health reporting. Jacky also was one of the nurses from our unit that cared for patients on the COVID End-of-Life unit during the peak of the pandemic. She is a quiet superstar, and I would truly entrust any of my loved ones to her care.
