The patient was alone when she was admitted to the ED. It was a particularly busy day and Jaclyn wasn't the nurse assigned to this patient, but she offered to help.
Recognizing that the patient was distraught, Jaclyn stayed by her side during the entire ED visit and explained the blood draws, monitoring and medications process.
Jaclyn held her hand and gently talked to the patient about what led her to the ED.
She eased her fears and showed her that she truly cared about her. Jaclyn continued to console the crying patient until her parents arrived.
Jaclyn truly went above and beyond, and instead of sticking strictly to tasks and leaving a scared young girl alone who had just been through a traumatic experience, she showed compassion, empathy and love for another human being in need. She has such a big heart and I know the patient will remember her caring ways for the rest of her life.
