I looked over and saw Jaclyn performing CPR on the child. Jaclyn, the paramedic, and several bystanders were able to revive the child before the ambulance arrived to take the child to the hospital. This all happened so fast, and everyone was in shock. I could see the fear and shock in Jaclyn's eyes.
This past weekend, I was at a local pool with my family, enjoying a hot summer day in the sun and playing in the water. I saw one of my friends/coworkers, Jaclyn Scott RN. Jaclyn and I worked together for a lot of years in the Cardiac Cath Lab. She is one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. We spent numerous days, nights, weekends, and holidays together. Jaclyn and I both have small kids, so we were catching up on life and swimming with our kids in the pool. I went to the cabana with my small baby and my 3-year-old daughter. We had been in the cabana for a short period of time when I heard the words you never want to hear: "Call 911!" As I looked up, I could see a small child being pulled from the pool. A family member began to perform lifesaving measures. Another person shouted that a family member was a paramedic. This all happened within seconds. Holding onto my baby and toddler, I looked over and saw Jaclyn performing CPR on the child. Jaclyn, the paramedic, and several bystanders were able to revive the child before the ambulance arrived to take the child to the hospital. This all happened so fast, and everyone was in shock. I could see the fear and shock in Jaclyn's eyes. I could see and hear everything that happened at that moment, and I can only imagine what Jaclyn felt. It is amazing to think about how important our life-saving certifications are. Jaclyn helped save that child. We never know when any of us will be in a situation where we need these skills. It is also so different saving a life outside the hospital without the hospital's resources. I will never forget this day or the impact that it will forever have on me as a Person, Mom, and employee of Cheyenne Regional. It was a miracle that Jaclyn and other people were able to save the child and just "happened" to be at the pool that day. Jaclyn is so deserving not just for her efforts this weekend but for the hundreds of lives she has saved at CRMC in the Cath Lab. Jaclyn will forever be a hero in my and my family's eyes.
