Jacob Abel, BSN, RN

Jacob is a wonderful nurse! He was kind, patient, and answered all of our questions when my mother-in-law was admitted to the ICU. I am a former ICU/CCU nurse myself, so I can easily recognize excellence when I see it.

From the onset of care to the passing of my mother-in-law, Jacob exuded confidence while posturing humility. My mother-in-law was nearing the end of her life. Before passing the following day, he delivered such passionate care, including swabbing my mother-in-law's mouth with a water swab coated in her favorite Blizzard flavor at her son's request. He stated, "That's a new one for me, and I am honored to do it!"

She passed around the change of shift with her family by her side. My husband noticed that Jacob was outside the room watching as the family embraced each other for the final goodbye. He, too, was shedding tears on behalf of my mother-in-law. A very poignant moment, one that we will never forget.

It was truly an honor and a blessing that Jacob was the nurse assigned to care for her! He was absolutely wonderful, and he truly deserves the DAISY Award.
