My nurse, Jake Bonnema, is very hard-working, competent and compassionate. He is attentive and listens well; always going out of his way to make my stay as pleasant as possible. When asked to assist in allowing me some privacy for important phone calls, he made signs for my door without delay for staff to check in with him as gatekeeper. Knowingthat I have been sleep-deprived here, he has often taken the time to do the other staff's scheduled blood draws, vitals, etc. a little earlier in the night so that I may get more uninterrupted sleep. He anticipates my needs and always follows through on requests. He is a true patient advocate and the best nurse I have ever experienced. If anyone deserves recognition at University of Chicago, it is Jake Bonnema.
