He could read her and responded strongly with a great sense of humor that helped her calm down and even switch 180 degrees from fear/depression to happy and enthusiastic.
Jacob made a terrible situation pleasant. His open candor and ability to connect with my elderly in-laws helped ease them through a very difficult time. My 90 year old mother in law (MIL) was life-flighted from Prosser with a semi-diagnosed heart condition. When we all arrived the next morning, Jacob was there to make us feel at home. He showed his knowledge and experience by addressing all of her physical/medical issues adeptly and explaining the various pieces of equipment, their purposes, and functions in a way we could all easily understand. But his service was so much more than that.

After the cardiologist came and described options to my MIL and PhD scientist Father-in-Law, Jacob was there to convert the options into more practical, understandable processes. His assistance and understanding helped everyone feel more comfortable with a path forward. He didn’t try to influence anyone’s opinion. He respected what people said, and he added valuable information in response to stated concerns.

My MIL is a fairly easygoing person, but she was frightened at various moments during her time under Jacob’s care. He could read her and responded strongly with a great sense of humor that helped her calm down and even switch 180 degrees from fear/depression to happy and enthusiastic.

Jacob's heart is in it. Everyone else we came in contact with on the CVICU was great. Jacob was the greatest!
