July 2026 Honoree
Jacob DeBorde, RN
I have been a patient numerous times over the years due to heart issues, along with severe retention of water throughout my body. I also had an ulcer rupture in my stomach and colon area, which was leaking poison into my body, and that’s when I met Jacob. He was in charge of inserting a tube into my nose to go into my stomach so that they could drain the contents while preparing me to be taken by helicopter to Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Jacob did his job with such great bedside manner and stayed with me from the ER to a room on the 2nd floor and even took me to ICU as we waited for the helicopter to arrive. I was so scared by how fast everything was going, but Jacob reassured me that I was going to be fine. I was all by myself, but having Jacob as my nurse made me feel like I had family by my side. Now that I am in the hospital again for my heart and fluid retention this time. Jacob still comes by every day; he’s here just to check on me. He’s cared for me for over 5 years and has always been such a kind, committed nurse. He deserves recognition for his outstanding care as an RN. He has always gone the extra mile in making a patient feel more like family. Jacob has been respectful and professional in his care for me as a patient. I have learned so much about my medical conditions just by asking him questions or sharing concerns. As I have stated, Jacob has a wonderful bedside manner, and to me, that is everything when in the hospital dealing with all kinds of things. He is #1 in my book, and I pray he gets the recognition he deserves.
Thank you, Jacob, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
