Jacob is an exemplary example of a caring person as well as a nurse.

Jacob took care of my husband and demonstrated his caring for others by treating my husband as a person – not just a number or a body in a bed. He provided many extra touches like soothing his lips with balm and keeping him comfortable with warm blankets.

The morning when my husband finally passed away, Jacob spent some time with me quietly letting me talk about my husband, even though I knew he had several other things he needed to be doing. He gave me the time and space to say my goodbyes and honor his memory before he had to be taken away.

Jacob’s skills exemplify the kind of nurse we all strive to be. He has a working knowledge of all skills required for an ICU nurse, including the rotoprone bed, continuous dialysis and the balloon pump. He is willing to help mentor new nurses as well as seasoned colleagues. He demonstrates his willingness to be a team player by being willing to switch assignments, with no hesitation, to benefit the unit and the patients.

Jacob is warm and genuine and always seems to make time to help others. He is well liked by his colleagues and emits a warmth that makes each person feel valued, whether they are a patient, family member or peer. Patient’s families rave about his care and extraordinary bedside manner as we constantly hear praises for his work and effort.

He was our shining star when Joint Commission was here recently. Not only did he impress the surveyors with his answers to their questions but he exuded confidence in what he does best: providing excellent care and representing the nursing profession in the highest light.
