My mother was an inpatient in the MICU for three days when she unfortunately passed. The first day and a half she had the honor of being cared for by Jacob. We immediately noticed the extra special care he used when administering any meds and explained to my sisters and me what it was and what it was for. This is a huge change from previous RNs we encountered at Stroger. Jacob was simply amazing to my mother; although she was sedated any time, he would be doing anything he would try to get her to come to and explain to her what he'd be doing to her or giving her despite the language barrier between them as my mother was only a Spanish speaker. The few times she would awake to his voice, which was obviously familiar to her, she would crack a smile or smile with her eyes at the sound of his voice or at the sight of him. Jacob's compassion for her during her last few hours of life will forever be in my mind. I am eternally grateful for Jacob. Stroger needs more Jacob Greathouses. Nurse Jacob was her attending nurse from intake until the day before her passing. Jacob treated her with such warm compassion and care like no other. It is the memory of Jacob's care that brings me and my family comfort, knowing that she was very well taken care of while in his care. Thank you, Jacob!
