“Recently I was confined in St Joseph East. I was in ICU. I was bitter and confused as to why I was there. When I met my RN, Jacob Heil, he was kind and caring and listened to all my griping and concerns and convinced me what was best for me and I would like to have him recognized for his caring and persistence as to my health. Jacob is an asset to your ICU and to the community as a whole. Thank you, Mr. C.”
I called Mr. C to discuss with him what made Jacob so special. He explained that his wife works in a nursing home and so he knows how bad things can be. During his stay he (Mr. C) was not nice to Jacob, in fact he said he was very rude to him and made it difficult for Jacob to be nice to him. It did not distress Jacob at all as Jacob continued to talk through any medication, procedure, etc. Jacob never showed anger. In fact Jacob did everything he could to make him feel special including keeping his ice chip's cup full. Jacob gave the best care ever! What touched Mr. C the most was when he was being released from the ICU Jacob said "Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you". Jacob will never be forgotten to Mr. C, he did not know nurses could be so generous and kind!
