Our neighbor, K, recently had spine surgery, the HH Nurse noted that he had excessive drainage from his incision and recommended that he go to the ED. It was late in the evening, and he had no one to bring him.. we were out of town, so he called Jacob (this was on Labor Day, Monday night, and Jacob had clinical to attend early Tuesday morning). Without hesitation, Jacob immediately went to K’s house and brought him to Ochsner Jeff Hwy ED. Jacob stayed the entire time and even went in the back with him as K was very nervous and wasn’t sure what to expect. Jacob stayed with him the entire time (6 hrs), helped him understand the plan of care, and helped him feel at ease. Once the doctor finished placing a wound vac, K was discharged, Jacob took him back home; by this time, it was midnight, made sure he was comfortable, explained everything to K’s wife (who is disabled), and settled before leaving him. K is diabetic so Jacob also made sure that his blood sugar was stable and that K had something to eat. I couldn’t be more proud of him for his exceptional skills and compassion that he showed during this time of need. And, he got up and went to his Clinical early this morning!

Thank you, Jacob, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
