Jacob is an extraordinary, compassionate, dedicated nurse in the PICU. Just recently, he made a difference in the life of one of our long-term, complex patients, and her family. This little girl had been on our unit for well over 100 days with her mother rarely leaving the bedside. He gained their trust and respect, quickly becoming one of their favorite primary nurses. It was not easy for this mom to step away from the bedside, but when he was their nurse, she felt comfortable enough to take a moment for herself. When the time came for this mom to make the hard decision to withdraw life support from her daughter, he was right by her side. He even made the choice to stay well after his scheduled night shift had ended to care for their daughter as she passed. And in doing so, he left a lasting impression of what it truly means to be a PICU nurse.
Jacob does not only leave an impression on the families he cares for but the colleagues he works with. He is always going above and beyond to help out his co-workers with a smile on his face. He is a great team leader, quick to help with admissions, offer advice, and lend a helping hand. We are so lucky to have this nurse as part of our team. These are just a few examples of why he is wonderful nurse.
