Jacob is a coworker of mine in the Main OR at Eskenazi. I had a patient in my OR that was about to undergo a very large tumor removal and she was understandably very nervous and inconsolable in tears. I found myself in a very difficult position because several pieces of equipment and supplies that were vital for the procedure were not in my OR, so I called Jacob to come to my OR and take my place as I rounded up all the missing items. Jacob immediately went to the patient's side and held her hand, doing everything he could to comfort her. When I returned, Jacob was praying with the patient and when they finished, the patient became very calm and spoke clearly - "I am so ready to get these things (tumors) off of me. I am in your hands and HIS hands. Thank you for taking the time to pray with me." During the flurry of activity that accompanies the start of a procedure, I was too busy with my responsibilities to assist with induction, so Jacob stayed with the patient to assist. He spoke to her the entire time, held her hand until she was asleep, and then assisted with the induction. Jacob is a model employee (and person) and this is ONLY ONE of the amazing things he has gone out of his way to do for myself, and our patients. I cannot count the number of times I have heard people speak glowingly of Jacob and he is a brightly shining light in the sometimes dim setting of the OR at a level 1 trauma center. I wholeheartedly believe Jacob is a true DAISY Nurse for all of the great things he does for this OR unit, hospital, and even the community as a whole.
