Jacob stopped in our room checking on my husband to see how things were going. We noticed a tiny tip of a tube sticking out of his clothes and we realized he was wearing an insulin pump. We couldn't help but ask if he was T1 Diabetic. As parents of two young children with diabetes, we very rarely run into someone with the same disease and especially a "grown-up". We chatted about his condition and asked him if he would be willing to speak with our children the next time they came up to visit their Dad. The next day Jacob visited with our children ages 10 and 6. They both loved meeting a grown up with T1. Jacob quickly connected with the kids and they shared a great moment. We can't thank Jacob enough for taking time from his busy day to take a few moments to talk to our two T1 Diabetic children from someone who "gets it", manages it, and has not let it hold him back from achieving his personal goals. Jacob truly went above and beyond for our children and we are very grateful.
