As I watched, with no sound, I could see how dedicated and compassionate Jacob was with his patient.
I was working as a tech today, and during my shift, I was watching the cameras to ensure patient and associate safety. I happened to catch Jacob Washer pulling up a chair next to his patient and their med-bed table. Jacob had three patients in the ICU that day. I was wondering what he was doing and how he could possibly have time to sit down in the ICU for one, and to top it off… having three patients!! As I watched, I realized Jacob was reviewing the discharge paperwork with the patient.

I’m nominating Jacob for this DAISY Award because as I watched, with no sound, I could see how dedicated and compassionate Jacob was with his patient. It did not matter that there was a mountain of tasks that would need to be done or that the NP or PA had likely gone over most of the discharge information already. Jacob sat there and reviewed every page, and I could see the patient interacting with Jacob, a true dialogue between nurse and patient.

In a perfect world, it would be like this every time… but sometimes it is just not possible. Somehow, Jacob Washer did it, and the patient will have a successful discharge because he is so dedicated.
