On just his second shift he received praise from all five patients under his care, who specifically took the time to address his compassionate delivery of care with his preceptor.
Jacob conducted himself in such a manner that resulted in him standing out compared to other nursing students that have currently or formerly partaken in clinical and/or role transition at the site. On just his second shift he received praise from all five patients under his care, who specifically took the time to address his compassionate delivery of care with his preceptor. Additionally, several nurses from the nursing unit, where he was assigned for his second shift, praised Jacob’s performance, teamwork, and commitment. His preceptor, an experienced nurse with over 12 years of critical care experience, expressed astonishment at his drive, eagerness to learn, and calmness under pressure during a situation where an arterial puncture site began to profusely bleed during ambulation.

In addition to his stellar performance in a critical situation, Jacob impressed me, as a clinical faculty assigned to him for Role Transition, by his instantly apparent organization skills and initiative. While having 9 students in my section for Role Transition, Jacob demonstrated initiative, tact, organization, and communication skills by immediately contacting his preceptor, determining his schedule, completing his preceptor data sheet, contacting me, and ensuring all required communication was completed within just days of being assigned his Role Transition. Between 4 clinical groups and 1 role transition group I have never observed such prompt and efficient time management and communication pertaining to course logistics.
