Ms. Jackie is an Extraordinary Nurse. Jackie was extremely patient with me when it came to giving me my medication. On the day of my discharge, she moved me to another room because 3 spiders were in my room. I didn't mention it to anyone, because I didn't think it mattered or that I mattered. I've always been terrified of any spider, small or big. I was scared of them since I was a little girl. At one point in my life, I faced homelessness and was bitten occasionally. In my room, I watched those spiders to see where they were. I made sure they were not relocating next to me. When I was little, I was traumatized as a little girl with spiders. I was feeling ashamed and embarrassed because I told my family group on the unit that when I left for discharge, I was going to take my life. I felt like a screw-up. But Ms. Jackie made me feel valued as a patient and as a woman. Ms. Jackie showed an unusual kind of patient care and brought me back to a special tool, that I had long evaded. That particular tool I started using immediately. Ms. Jackie has a calming reserve about herself and an easy presence about herself. Jackie brought back a skill that has helped me millions of times.
