I was scheduled for hernia surgery and had been checked in, prepped, my IV was in and I was ready to go. But then my doctor was delayed in a procedure which would require a minimum of 3-4 more hours of his time before he could operate on me. Ms. Jackie LeSage delivered this news to me then proceeded to stay with me for the next half hour. I was quite upset upon hearing her news, but she patiently explained my options, and calmed my nerves. She then was able to secure a cell phone so that I was able to make 2 calls to my wife in order to help make the decision whether to wait, or to reschedule. She brought me reading material in case my decision was to wait and checked on available surgeons to determine if an alternate doctor could do the procedure immediately, but none was available. Given this information, I then decided to reschedule. Ms. LeSage then personally was able to determine that my doctor would be available the next day, and then facilitated a new appointment for me for the following morning. In addition, she secured answers from the business office, allaying my concerns of the financial impact of my decision. She stayed until I was dressed and able to leave. She was professional, but also highly empathetic throughout the entire time. Some people believe that there are angels all around us. I have come to believe that Ms. LeSage was my angel at that moment. People may think she was just a nurse doing her job, but I saw her as my advocate, my angel, who was inserted into my life at just the moment when I most needed her. She brought peace, calm, comfort, and wisdom to me in my difficult situation. I shall always be grateful for and remember her efforts.
