I am the daughter of the patient. My mother has been admitted to UCI not once, but three times, for weeks at a time. This last time she has been here for 9 months, and we had the privilege of having Jacqui at my mom's bedside during the most difficult time of our lives. We received results that my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and they had no results on what stage she is in. Jacqui was compassionate; she hugged me and allowed us to step outside and take a breather. She was loving and caring toward my mom before we received the news, and this made an even greater impact.

We need nurses like Jacqui who offer both emotional support and practical help. Her ability to connect on a human level, especially when receiving news like this. I work in healthcare myself, but in this situation, I saw things through a patient’s perspective, and we've had numerous nurses at the bedside since we've been on this process. Let me tell you that often we felt like we were just a number, or there was often no connection or compassion. Yet Jacqui has been nothing but the best.
