I am writing to nominate Jackie Pitt, a Nurse at Crayton Middle School, for the DAISY Award. Jackie embodies the qualities of an exceptional nurse, demonstrating professionalism, a calm demeanor, organization, and thoroughness in her work. Her understanding of the middle school child and her nurturing character make her an invaluable asset to our school community.

One of Jackie's remarkable qualities is her dedication to educating both students and staff on important health topics. She regularly gives talks to our student body, providing crucial information on issues such as the dangers of vaping, particularly for middle school children who are still in the developmental stage. Her efforts in raising awareness about such critical health concerns contribute significantly to the well-being of our students.

Furthermore, Jackie goes above and beyond to ensure the safety of our school community. She provides essential training sessions for teachers, including programs like "Stop the Bleed," which equips them with the skills to respond effectively in the event of emergencies such as an active shooter situation. Her proactive approach to preparedness demonstrates her commitment to the safety and welfare of all students and staff members.

One particular incident stands out as a testament to Jackie's extraordinary dedication and professionalism. As the principal of the school, I am often present at medical emergencies that occur. One such event that profoundly impacted me was when a student experienced a seizure in the classroom. Without hesitation, Nurse Pitt swiftly guided all students out of the room and directed them to continue their instruction in the media center, ensuring both the privacy of the student in distress and the continuity of education for the others. Despite the alarming situation, Jackie remained composed and assessed the situation calmly.

As the seizure persisted beyond what was typical, Jackie calmly advised me to call for an ambulance at the five-minute mark. She administered medication to the student without hesitation, all while maintaining her poise and professionalism. Witnessing her calm demeanor and swift actions during a crisis reassured me and alleviated my fears for the student's well-being. Moreover, Jackie's compassionate approach extended to comforting the student throughout the ordeal, reassuring him that he was safe and cared for.

Once the student was taken by EMS, Nurse Pitt returned to the classroom to address any concerns the students had about their classmate's well-being. She handled their questions with sensitivity, ensuring that they felt supported and informed without divulging any personal details. Jackie's efforts not only ensured the physical well-being of our students but also fostered a sense of empathy and understanding among their peers.

In conclusion, Jackie Pitt's exemplary contributions to the health and safety of our school community make her a deserving candidate for the DAISY Award. Her unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion exemplify the qualities of an outstanding nurse. I wholeheartedly endorse her nomination and believe she is truly deserving of this honor.
