If there is anything that I need, or anyone, for that matter, who can give extra education on something, she is right there to help and explain it; she’s our go-to nurse.
Mrs. Reese is constantly demonstrating the VA’s I-Care Values every day she shows up to work. From coming into work and being a very positive and motivational person to be around to advocating and going above and beyond for the Veterans on this unit or any unit that she may be pulled to. Some examples displaying the I-Care values are as follows.
When I first started on this unit, it was right around yearly surveying time, and we had a mock survey, and I was chosen to do a med pass that had a PEG tube. Mrs. Reese was my mentor and made me feel so comfortable and helped me through the entire med pass and made it a memorable experience. If there is anything that I need, or anyone, for that matter, who can give extra education on something, she is right there to help and explain it; she’s our go-to nurse. For example, one instance I can think of was when I was unsure how to properly irrigate a Foley catheter. Mrs. Reese took the time to show me and make sure I was able to do it effectively.
Countless times, Mrs. Reese stays committed to the Veterans and to her peers, and sometimes, after she is supposed to leave, will stay after to ensure the Veterans' needs have been met and make sure the floor is good before leaving her shift. Mrs. Reese even thinks of different activities to do with the Veterans that may start being behavioral, and is able to redirect Veterans to a fun and therapeutic activity.
If there is a crisis on the unit and Mrs. Reese is on the unit either as the nurse, patient care tech or even the charge nurse the crisis gets resolved easily and effectively. When a rapid response is needed, the RRT is done without any issues, and if issues arise, Jackie will talk to you about it in a calm and respectful manner for correction or will praise you for how effectively the RRT was done.
