Jackie is a long term member of the nursing staff of the Special Care Nursery which cares for very sick preterm infants and growing preemies born at Emory or transferred from outlying hospitals.

On one particular night, a very sick infant in critical condition was transferred in from another hospital. A less experienced nurse was caring for the baby when the infant's condition deteriorated and a code was called. Jackie began to run the code smoothly in her very calm and confident manner. She directed all the healthcare providers in what they needed to do, with the parents at the bedside. Jackie's calmness, confidence, and directions made the whole atmosphere less frantic and more reassuring for everyone.

Her nominating peer wrote "Jackie is someone you can go to when you have a question. She will always help you. I want to thank her for all she is and all she does for other nurses in the Special Care Nursery".
