Jade M Schultz, RN
I am an employee of the hospital and I had one of my worst fears become real. I slipped and fell at work and quickly heard Code 250, Employee Restroom, Switchboard Hallway.
I was in excruciating pain, knowing by the loud pop that I had broken my arm trying to brake my fall. The next few days are a blur. I had a five-hour surgery to repair my arm and had to spend a night in the hospital. This all happened a year ago next week. Last week, I was going through photos on my phone and saw a picture of one of the whiteboards in a patient room. I was puzzled as to why I had that picture on my phone, and then I remembered.
In my haze following a five-hour sedation and the wonderful pain killers I was given, I took that picture to remember who cared for me because I was afraid I would forget. Jade was so caring and compassionate and put me at ease. That in and of itself warranted this nomination, but to take it a step further, she never once mentioned that she cared for me or made light of the silly things I said or did coming out from under anesthesia. She was so professional.
It was not until I saw the photo and her name as my nurse that I had the flood of memories that made me think she deserved to be recognized for the amazing, compassionate, confidential nurse that she is. It is with great appreciation that I nominate Jade Schultz for the DAISY Award.
