My elderly mother was a patient at OSF for a scheduled surgery, due to complications my mother was transferred to the 5th floor, this was right after the hospital went on lockdown. My mother, who had never been hospitalized before was now an hour from home and alone. I am sure this is a stressful time for everyone, but I know for my mother and myself, it felt extremely overwhelming and sometimes even hopeless. I knew my mother was in good hands, but nothing seemed to be calming the anxiousness for her or myself, unit Jade answered the phone one evening. Not only did Jade take the time to answer all of my questions, but she also took the time to go to my mom and explain things to her. I could hear her over the phone, talking to my mom in a very calm and caring voice, almost as if she were talking to her own family member. Jade made the extra effort to talk with me towards the end of every shift, to update me on my mother's night and any changes to her health, no matter how small they may have been. When my mom said she enjoyed doing word finds, Jade even took the time to find her some for her, so my mom could relax and pass her time while she was at OSF. I have always believed that family is the best to care for and comfort their loved ones during illness, but Jade filled the void of the missing family for my mother, with her kind words, deeds, and loving ways. For all of her extra measures of care and support, to not only her patient but also her patient's family, I feel Jade is a true DAISY Nurse.
